My home is usually aflutter with little girls in wispy pink tutus. Some days the fancy young ladies are just my preschool age twin daughters, but many weekdays I host a handful of tiny divas. My kids love to have friends visit and I am happy to extend invites to their gal pals. As I watch the girls hug and chat, memories of my childhood filter back. My parents always opened our home to the gaggles of giggling friends I always wanted over.
On days that it is only my girls, they love to tell our Alexa what music to play. They then don sparkly tiaras, glittery shoes and layers of frothy skirts. To finish off their glam outfits, both pile on tons of glitzy plastic necklaces. My four-year-olds certainly like bling! Once they are dressed they come up with dance moves. After the choreography is finalized a “show” is performed. If I am brought into the act they enjoy giving me directions. I am instructed to tendu, plie and finally sauté across the floor. Currently their favorite song to dance to is David Garret’s version of Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida.” I am quite thankful for a break from “Baby Shark.”
Sometimes when they have their little friends over there is a dance performance, but they have a new favorite group activity. Spa day. Sure, who doesn’t like a bit of pampering. For this experience I put on calming music and all the mini participants line up. First they get their nails painted with silver nontoxic glitter polish. Then they get a fancy hairdo. Next comes a dab of mashed avocado facial mask on their petite noses. After everyone lays down, cucumber slices are placed on their eyelids. While they relax and chat away, I get the spa snacks ready. It’s a pretty good deal for them!
Quite a few of their friends’ mothers have asked if they could hire me. I think they meant for a kids’ event, but I’m not entirely sure they didn’t mean for themselves. Perhaps girls of all ages like glitter nail polish and avocado facials every now and then!
