Soft silk caresses my thighs as it slips by. Bobbing as I jump up and down dancing to the rich pounding jazz, the beaded dress shimmies to the notes. Chiffon points from its hem finger my upper calves. I love the feel of cropped hair tickling my earlobes. Coyly, my red painted lips express inaudible words to my dance partner.
As I flirtatiously lower my long lashes, the roaring room slips into darkness. When my eyes blink open, steely skyscrapers soar just beyond a pane of glass. The dishwasher beeps and my cell phone chirps. I am home. But for a brief moment I was lost in time.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a different era? Perhaps you might even feel that a bygone time would suit you better. I myself have often wondered what it would be like to experience a day in the past.
Would living in a Medieval castle be fabulously romantic? If swept away into a Jane Austen Regency style adventure, could I lounge in a parlor trimming my hats with fancy ribbon? If I awoke to find myself on the set of a 1930s Hollywood film, who would be my dashing leading man?
Modern times, especially for women, have many benefits. Suffragettes paved the way for us. I’m
quite thankful for contemporary medicine as many of the practices during the time of knights in shining armor were less than desirable. Plus, I’ll take my washing machine any day over a washboard! I have young twins and the laundry sure piles up. But, I can’t help but wonder what dancing the Charleston in Art Deco splendor while sipping bathtub gin would have been been like!
