As long summer days bow to the gentle breezes of oncoming fall, I feel a little bittersweet. My four-year-old twin daughters will be returning to preschool in just a few days.
I have enjoyed a fun filled summer with them. Yes, it has been busy and at times exhausting, but I have loved all our adventures. Both girls are experiencing some mixed feelings about going back to school. They want to see much missed friends and make new ones too. But each has asked if I can stay in the classroom.
This range of emotions I understand well. As a child I didn’t want the fun of summer to end, but I also looked forward to seeing buddies I rarely saw during break. However, nobody can halt the arrival of cooler days.
Truth be told, fall is my favorite season. I love the changing of leaves, the slight nip in the air and the anticipation of hot apple cider. Not sure what it is about this time of year, but I feel serene and invigorated at the same time.
As I immerse myself in these last few full summer days with my kids, I have decided to let the laundry pile up and just enjoy my children. As a special treat I made peach milk shakes. The twins and I wish you a playful week!
Peach Milk Shakes
2 cups vanilla ice cream, frozen
1/2 cup cold 2% milk
1 peach, pealed and sliced
In a blender add the ice cream, milk and peaches. Blend until smooth. Pour into two glasses.
Makes 2 servings
