She stood amongst the tulle and lace, light blue eyes taking in all the splendor. Her little hand reached out to feel a glittery gown, as she decided which princess she would be that day. Pointing to a frothy dress, quite satisfied with her choice, she smiled up at me then shifted her gaze to her twin sister playing across the room. My four-year-old daughters were about to embark on a fairytale journey.
“Mommy,” she whispered, “today I will be Elena. She is so brave!”
Just like the Disney princess Elena of Avalor my child is thoughtful, resilient and compassionate. Selecting a lavender rhinestone necklace, she brought it over to her sister. Next, my pixie decided to decorate her own neck with a strand of fuchsia beads. After I slipped her fanciful gown on her, she rummaged around in a jewelry box. Joyfully my mini fashionista pulled out sparkly clip on earrings. Giggling, she held them out so I could put them on her.
“Do these go with my outfit?” She asked and rolled the glitzy baubles between her fingers.
I assured her that in fact they did, and put them on her dainty ears. Tilting her head, the faux gems caught the light. Seeming content she twirled, the layers of her gauzy dress floating around her. Images of The Wizard of Oz’s Glinda and Enchanted’s Giselle popped into my mind as I watched.
After she helped her sister adjust a sequin crown, it was time for lipgloss and afternoon tea. Both twins sat down to nibble on petite treats, as songs fit for fairy princesses filled the air. Wishing you an enchanted day!
